Quonset hut buildings inspired the design of modern day prefabricated steel buildings. In fact, many current portable steel buildings got their design from the Quonset hut. These buildings are very light weight and can be put together quickly. Right after World War II, airplane hangers were made out of steel and designed after the Quonset hut. Thousands of the Quonset huts began to be made.
