In my 20s, I did moving the cheap way. It usually consisted of bribing some buddies with beer and pizza, convincing my parents to do some heavy lifting and using a flatbed truck of one of my friends. I seemed to always keep one of those storage rental places to keep all the stuff I did not know what to do with from move to move. I moved on to leasing a big moving truck at some point. I had to, of course, still bribe friends and family to lend their muscles.
